In case you just couldn’t figure out the reason your friends and coworkers have been relentlessly tormenting you with stupid pranks all day yesterday, it’s because yesterday was April Fools day! And while April first may have already come and gone (you’ll get ‘em next time!) you can still just fall back on the ole’ just-because-I-can prank (and get them now!). And while we at Gamechurch would neeeeever condone mean-spirited shenanagins like replacing your friend’s desktop background with a screenshot of his actual desktop and deleting all the real icons, we’re more than happy to give you a short glimpse of some of the zingers from the game industry you may have missed.
3. Football Manager 1888 Announced
Yeah yeah, every year we get some wise-guy game companies that think its hilarious to announce fake sequels (I’m looking at you Minecraft), but Football Manager 1888 sounds like a game we might actually want to play! It’s got all the trappings of a legitimate entry in the FM franchise, and it’s just different enough to pique our interests. You never know though, stuff like this is just the kind of pipe-dream to end up on Kickstarter…
2. Dishonored’s “Developer Commentary”
Subtlety is key to a good April Fools joke, and while I’m not sure I would call this faux-commentary from the Dishonored developers “subtle” it’s certainly a unique approach to trolling viewers and poking fun at their own game. I dare you not to laugh as the two developers speak in deliberate tones about all the game’s enemies being played by real people on the internet and dying of old age if you wait long enough. Or the simulated air and how there are “like…700 ways to get in that building.” You’ll probably be laughing out loud just before they do. It’s a pretty awesome joke, especially since they’re the butt of it and not you.
1.A Real Fake Farcry Trailer!?
Farcry 3: Blood Dragon! How’s that strike you? Sound so ridiculous you might actually play it just to see what it is? Well the joke…isn’t….on you…or maybe it is, I’m getting lost in my own misdirection here. The point is these clever devils made a fake trailer for a new game set in the Farcry universe that might not actually be fake! It seems just a little too obscure and teaser-y to be just an April Fools joke, but you can head on over to the website and see what you think.
Until Next April 1st, be good kids.
